Health and Wellbeing Drop in Session

Leicester City Healthcare Hubs

The healthcare hubs are an integral part of the service provided by Leicester City GP practices to improve access to appointments. If you need an appointment and we do not have anything available, we may book an appointment for you at one of four healthcare hubs instead, if an appointment is suitable for your particular medical problem.

There are four healthcare hubs in Leicester, offering convenient appointments during the day, in the evenings, at weekends and on bank holidays:

If you have used the healthcare hubs service before, you may have booked an appointment yourself. From 1st August 2019, appointments can only be booked by your GP practice during normal opening hours. In the evening and at weekends, you can call NHS 111 for advice, who will be able to book an out of hours appointment if appropriate.

New Prescription Rules

Your GP, nurse or clinical pharmacist at practice will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of short-term, minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.

The team of qualified healthcare professionals at your local pharmacy can offer clinical advice to safely and effectively manage minor health concerns.

Register with a GP surgery

We are using a new online service called Register with a GP surgery that makes it easy to register with this GP surgery.

Just fill in online form on NHS App to start the process. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number.

The service is designed and run by the NHS, so your personal information is safe. It cuts our administrative workload and makes it easier for you to register.

Paper forms are still available if you need one.

Salutem Primary Care Network

Primary Care Networks (PCNs) form a key part of the future of primary care.  First developed within the NHS Five Year Forward View published in 2014, they are part of a model of care in which commissioners and providers work together in different ways to achieve closer integration of services locally.

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, the introduction of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) has been implemented. This means that Practices in the same geographical area are to come together to create a PCN and share services to provide equality of these services across a given area. For example, a Practice that has the skilled staff to provide Minor Surgery for their patients can provide this service to all patients within the PCN.

Johnson Medical Practice has teamed up with Downing Drive Surgery, Humberstone Medical Centre, East Leicester Medical Practice and St Elizabeth’s Medical Centre to form Salutem Primary Care Network. This PCN has been approved by NHS England and the Clinical Commissioning Group.

It is early days and working as a PCN will develop services over time.
