SOCIAL PRESCRIBING SERVICE
Social prescribing is about improving your health, social, physical and emotional wellbeing. We offer a free confidential one to one service over the telephone or face to face. The support will enable you to access social or community activities or resources in our local area. We can support people who feel socially isolated, low in confidence, self-esteem, struggling to cope with living at home, carers and those with poor mental wellbeing affected by social circumstance such as debt or poor housing.
Please speak to a member of staff if you feel this service would benefit you.
Electronic Prescribing Service
We are now providing an electronic prescribing service. If you nominate a preferred local pharmacy we can send your prescriptions directly to them electronically. The advantage of this service is that you will not have to collect the prescription from the surgery, simply collect your medication from your pharmacy. If you are interested in this service, please go to your preferred pharmacy and they can arrange it for you.
Text message reminders
We can now send you a text message to remind you of your appointment at Northam Surgery. Currently we are offering this service for those who have appointments for a blood test, blood pressure or ECG but we hope to send reminders for all of our appointments in the future. We can also let you know if you have missed an appointment.
If you would like to consent to receive reminders by text message please see a member of the reception team or call 01237 474 994. We will not contact you by text message if you do not consent.

Green Impact
The surgery has signed up to the Green Impact for Health Scheme. This is an ongoing project to improve the environmental performance of GP surgeries while saving money and ensuring that our services offers the greatest benefit to society as a whole. We are proud to announce achieving the Bronze Award in 2021 and are now working hard towards Silver.
The Green Impact for Health project has been developed for General Practice by the National Union of Students, GPs, trainees, and medical students. It is supported by University of Bristol, NHS Health Education South West and the Severn Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
The scheme covers many different areas including:
Social prescribing, reducing waste and increased recycling and more environmentally friendly inhaler choices
Record Sharing
There is a local shared record programme that allows some of your medical records to be viewed by other local medical care providers, e.g. A&E, Out of Hours Doctors etc. You will always be asked for your consent, each time a professional accesses your records, unless you are too unwell to give permission. Your consent will always be recorded on your record. You will be automatically opted in unless you would like to dissent, please speak to a member of reception.
