FLU APPOINTMENTS - IMPORTANT

If you have an appointment for a flu vaccine, it is important that you read the following information as our clinics will be run differently this year:

  • If you have a new continuous cough, a fever or a change in your usual sense of smell or taste, GO HOME and check the NHS website for what to do

  • Tell the nurse if:

    • you have had a previous severe reaction to the flu immunisation
    • you have any allergies – in particular to eggs or antibiotics or latex
    • You may be pregnant
    • You are taking any of the following medications – Steroid tablets, Warfarin, Immunosuppressants, chemotherapy

  • This appointment is for your flu vaccine only

  • Ensure that you wear your face covering / mask whilst in the building

  • Do not touch anything, and if possible remain standing for your vaccination

  • Please use the hand sanitiser

  • Take your coat off and ensure your arm to be injected is exposed (this doesn’t apply to children having the nasal vacc)

  • Stay 2 metres apart from other patients

  • After your vaccine you may get a mild fever, slight muscle aches or a sore arm for a day or two, have a look on the NHS website for more information

Flu Clinics

Flu clinics are now on the system, if you are eligible book online if you can, if you need to telephone to make your appointment you should avoid 8-9am and 12-2pm.

The clinics will be run differently this year, please note:

  • There will be separate clinics for over 65’s, under 65’s who are in an at risk group and children who are eligible to be vaccinated at the surgery
  • You should attend alone wherever possible
  • DO NOT ATTEND IF YOU ARE UNWELL OR HAVE COVID SYMPTOMS
  • You should bring a face covering with you to your appointment
  • There will be no seating available, and you will remain standing for your vaccination – let us know if you will find this difficult
  • Wear loose clothing and have your arm exposed when you enter the nurses room
  • Wash hands regularly / use hand sanitiser
  • The flu clinics will be strictly for flu vaccines only, if you are due for anything else you will need to make an appointment in a normal clinic where your flu vaccine will be given at the same time, try to attend the surgery as little as possible
  • We will have flu clinics at all three sites at a variety of times Monday to Friday, remember to stay 2 metres apart from other patients, and if the weather is inclement, bring an umbrella as it is likely there will be queues.
  • Ensure you know which site your appointment has been booked at, if it is at St Peters Centre, it will be in the Health Education Suite if your appointment is for flu vaccination only, not in the normal practice premises.  The Health Education Suite is on the 1st Floor in the St Peters Centre
  • There is a suggestion that all those aged 50 and over will be vaccinated – at the moment we are not aware of whether this will occur, or how, so if you are aged 50-64 and not in an at risk group, do not contact us at this stage

I have symptoms of cancer what should I do during the coronavirus outbreak?

You should still contact us if you notice a change that isn't normal for you or if you have any possible signs and symptoms of cancer.

Even if you're worried about what the symptom might be, or about getting coronavirus don't delay contacting us. Your worry is unlikely to go away if you don't make an appointment. The symptom might not be due to cancer. But if it is, the earlier it's picked up the higher the chance of successful treatment. You won't be wasting our time.

This video explains the importance of going to your GP if you notice any possible cancer symptoms. It lasts for 42 seconds.

Good Day Calls

Would you or an elderly relative be interested in receiving a regular 'Good Day' call?

Age UK are offering a daily call providing reassurance, security and support. by a trained member of their team to check on the welfare of you or an older relative or friend. We know that if you live alone it can be difficult not to have someone to talk to, especially if you do not have regular contact with family members. This can be an extremely anxious time for people and we know you may worry that no one will notice if you become ill or are without the practical assistance and emotional support you need.

In addition to providing reassurance and practical support they will also chat about interests and how you are keeping busy at home.

Their service also brings reassurance to family members who may live at a distance and be unable to visit and keep in close contact owing to their own commitments.

Their daily call helps tackle these issues by making sure the person is up and well and provides an opportunity for a friendly chat.

Advice for parents during coronavirus

Whilst coronavirus is infectious to children it is rarely serious. If your child is unwell it is likely to be a non-coronavirus illness, rather than coronavirus itself.
Whilst it is extremely important to follow Government advice to stay at home during this period, it can be confusing to know what to do when your child is unwell or injured. Remember that NHS 111, GPs and hospitals are still providing the same safe care that they have always done. Here is some advice to help:
